Speaker: Sanjaya, reporting to Dhritarashtra

Teaching film · Sanskrit · Everyday reflection

Our original brief meaning and reflection accompany the Sanskrit below.

Context, Sanskrit and lesson transcript

Sanjaya describes the effect of the Pandava conches on Dhritarashtra’s sons.

स घोषो धार्तराष्ट्राणां हृदयानि व्यदारयत्।
नभश्च पृथिवीं चैव तुमुलोऽभ्यनुनादयन्॥१९॥

Brief meaning, in our own words. The tremendous sound reverberates through earth and sky and rends the hearts of Dhritarashtra’s sons.

This is the forceful language of the battlefield account. Krishna’s teaching has not yet begun.

Here is our everyday reflection. When a situation unsettles you, notice the feeling before acting on it. Name what you know, and what you still need to understand.
