Teaching film · Sanskrit · Everyday reflection
Our original brief meaning and reflection accompany the Sanskrit below.
Context, Sanskrit and lesson transcript
Arjuna continues his argument in the social language of the passage. He is still speaking to Krishna.
अधर्माभिभवात्कृष्ण प्रदुष्यन्ति कुलस्त्रियः।
स्त्रीषु दुष्टासु वार्ष्णेय जायते वर्णसङ्करः॥४१॥
Brief meaning, in our own words. Arjuna fears that growing wrongdoing will corrupt the women of the family and lead to varna sankara, rendered in our chosen edition as unwanted progeny.
We identify this as Arjuna’s stated fear within the dialogue. The passage’s language about women and offspring requires careful context. Our explanation does not turn it into a judgment on anyone’s worth today.
Here is our everyday reflection. Consider how conflict affects those who have less protection or power. Let concern for a family become practical care for every person within it.
