Speaker: Krishna, addressing Arjuna.

The shloka

अव्यक्तोऽयमचिन्त्योऽयमविकार्योऽयमुच्यते ।
तस्मादेवं विदित्वैनं नानुशोचितुमर्हसि ॥ २५ ॥

Brief meaning

The self is described as unmanifest, beyond ordinary thought and unchanging. Krishna presents this understanding as a reason to reconsider grief.

In the conversation

The clothing image makes an abstract teaching approachable, then Krishna describes the self through what cannot damage it. A metaphor opens understanding without making bodies disposable. Remember that the conversation concerns Arjuna’s confusion about death and duty, and that a physical illustration can point toward a claim it cannot fully depict.

Everyday reflection

Consider a favourite coat that has become too worn to use. Replacing it does not replace the person who wore it. That everyday observation helps explain the form of the metaphor, but changing a coat is not identical to death or bereavement. Keep that difference clear. The reflection is an invitation to ask whether we identify ourselves entirely with what changes. When a possession, appearance or role alters, can you respond with care without assuming your entire worth has disappeared?

Consider today: Allow a question to remain unresolved.
