Speaker: Krishna, addressing Arjuna.

The shloka

नेहाभिक्रमनाशोऽस्ति प्रत्यवायो न विद्यते ।
स्वल्पमप्यस्य धर्मस्य त्रायते महतो भयात् ॥ ४० ॥

Brief meaning

In this discipline, effort is not lost and progress is not overturned by failure. Even a small beginning is described as protection from great fear.

In the conversation

Krishna turns toward disciplined action guided by understanding. He reassures the learner about sincere effort and contrasts a gathered purpose with a mind pulled toward many aims. This is not a promise that every worldly project will succeed; the reassurance belongs to the spiritual discipline being taught.

Everyday reflection

You decide to practise ten minutes of attentive study each morning. After a disrupted week, it is tempting to label the whole effort a failure and abandon it. Instead, return to the next reasonable session. Notice one thing you understood and one habit that made concentration difficult. Steadiness grows through returning, not through pretending interruptions never occur. Choose a small practice that you can sustain and give it a clear purpose. What is the next honest step, rather than the perfect streak?

Consider today: Begin a useful practice at a manageable scale.
