Speaker: Krishna, addressing Arjuna.
The shloka
यावानर्थ उदपाने सर्वतः सम्प्लुतोदके ।
तावान्सर्वेषु वेदेषु ब्राह्मणस्य विजानतः ॥ ४६ ॥
Brief meaning
A large body of water fulfilling the purposes of smaller wells illustrates how realised understanding encompasses the aims served by scriptural instruction.
In the conversation
Krishna speaks of the three qualities of material nature and the pressure of opposites, then offers an image of water that encompasses smaller supplies. The passage is about a larger spiritual understanding. It does not tell people to neglect food, shelter or dependants while trying to appear detached.
Everyday reflection
Look at an ordinary purchase you are considering. Is it needed, useful or simply a response to the fear of missing out? Give yourself enough time to answer. You may still choose to buy it, but the choice need not be driven by every advertisement or comparison. Practical care for your needs can coexist with questioning endless acquisition. What is enough for this purpose? Where does sensible provision end and anxious accumulation begin in this particular decision?
Consider today: Return to the purpose of a practice rather than its outer form alone.
