Speaker: Krishna, addressing Arjuna.

The shloka

रागद्वेषविमुक्तैस्तु विषयानिन्द्रियैश्चरन् ।
आत्मवश्यैर्विधेयात्मा प्रसादमधिगच्छति ॥ ६४ ॥

Brief meaning

Moving among sensory experiences with disciplined senses, free from the grip of attraction and aversion, is associated with inward serenity.

In the conversation

The teaching does not end at withdrawal. It describes moving among experiences without being driven by attraction and aversion, and connects serenity with settled understanding. This serenity is part of a spiritual discipline; it should not be promised as an instant cure for every difficulty.

Everyday reflection

You enter a shop with a short list and a limited budget. Attractive displays invite extra purchases, while a crowded aisle irritates you. Notice both pulls without treating either as an order. Return to the purpose of the visit, make the needed choices and leave room for other people. Such an ordinary moment can reveal how quickly attention is borrowed by likes and dislikes. What changes when you keep the purpose clear and allow a feeling to pass without immediately obeying it?

Consider today: Meet a small preference or dislike without being ruled by it.
