Speaker: Arjuna, addressing Krishna

Teaching film · Sanskrit · Everyday reflection

Our original brief meaning and reflection accompany the Sanskrit below.

Context, Sanskrit and lesson transcript

Arjuna speaks directly to Krishna. Seeing his own people ready for battle, he describes what is happening within him.

अर्जुन उवाच।
दृष्ट्वेमं स्वजनं कृष्ण युयुत्सुं समुपस्थितम्॥२८॥
सीदन्ति मम गात्राणि मुखं च परिशुष्यति।

Brief meaning, in our own words. Arjuna tells Krishna that the sight of his kinsmen prepared to fight leaves his limbs giving way and his mouth dry.

This is Arjuna describing his own experience. We hear the opening of his difficulty before Krishna’s response. Our portrait provides the setting; it does not attempt to illustrate each bodily sensation.

Here is our everyday reflection. When you are troubled, try putting the experience into clear words for someone you trust. Listening begins when we make room for what is actually being felt.
