Speaker: Arjuna, addressing Krishna

Teaching film · Sanskrit · Everyday reflection

Our original brief meaning and reflection accompany the Sanskrit below.

Context, Sanskrit and lesson transcript

Arjuna tells Krishna of a consequence he says he has heard about.

उत्सन्नकुलधर्माणां मनुष्याणां जनार्दन।
नरकेऽनियतं वासो भवतीत्यनुशुश्रुम॥४४॥

Brief meaning, in our own words. Addressing Krishna as Janardana, Arjuna says he has heard that people whose family duties have been destroyed dwell in hell for an indefinite time.

The words about having heard are significant. Arjuna invokes a received teaching to support his fear. The narration preserves who makes this claim and how he presents it.

Here is our everyday reflection. When a belief shapes an important decision, pause to identify where it came from. Make space for a sincere question and a careful answer.
