Context, Sanskrit and lesson transcript

Sanjaya resumes his account. After Duryodhana’s words, the sound of a conch enters the scene.

तस्य सञ्जनयन्हर्षं कुरुवृद्धः पितामहः।
सिंहनादं विनद्योच्चैः शङ्खं दध्मौ प्रतापवान्॥१२॥

Brief meaning, in our own words. Bhishma, the elder of the Kuru family, gives a loud, lion-like cry and blows his conch, bringing joy to Duryodhana.

This sound belongs to the gathering before battle. It is Bhishma’s action here; Krishna and Arjuna’s conches appear later in the chapter.

Here is our everyday reflection. Notice how a sound can change the atmosphere around you. Before joining the energy of a crowd, take one breath and notice your own intention.
