Speaker: Krishna, addressing Arjuna.

The shloka

बुद्धियुक्तो जहातीह उभे सुकृतदुष्कृते ।
तस्माद्योगाय युज्यस्व योगः कर्मसु कौशलम् ॥ ५० ॥

Brief meaning

One joined to this understanding moves beyond both good and bad karmic results. Krishna calls yoga skill in action and urges commitment to it.

In the conversation

Krishna contrasts a mind fixed on rewards with disciplined understanding, and calls yoga skill in action. That phrase should not be reduced to efficiency at any cost. Its setting concerns freedom from binding karmic results, a deeper question than getting more tasks done in less time.

Everyday reflection

A manager can finish a difficult conversation quickly by refusing questions. But speed alone does not make the conversation skilful. Clear facts, a fair opportunity to respond and a thoughtful next step may require more care. Before acting, ask what kind of attention the situation deserves. Afterward, examine whether your method was honest and proportionate. Skill includes knowing when to slow down, when to speak plainly and when your own desire to win is distorting the task.

Consider today: Bring honesty and attention to one ordinary task.
